The Omaha Mavericks hockey team came to a disappointing end Saturday night at the CenturyLink Center. The St. Cloud State Huskies defeated the Mavericks on both Friday and Saturday.
The Friday game ended with a score of 2-1, going into double over time with the Huskies taking the win. The Huskies ended Saturday night’s game with three goals, Omaha with one.
The win advances St. Cloud State to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Frozen Faceoff next weekend at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
The Mavericks are ranked eighth and are likely in the NCAA tournament.
The Mavericks played without senior goalie Ryan Massa, who aggravated his knee injury he suffered before the regular-season finale during the first period of Friday’s opener.
Sophomore Austin Ortega said it was tough not being able to come back strong on Saturday night, but he hopes this loss will make the team stronger.
“There’s always room for improvement,” said Ortega.
